Pour is an iPhone app for ranking the wines you try and comparing with friends. We collect as little as we can, never sell or share anything that identifies you, and never use your data for ads. We do share and sell wine insights made from totals across many people; see Wine insights.
What we collect
- How you sign in. With Apple, Pour doesn't ask Apple for your name or email; we only get an anonymous account ID. With Google, we get your email address. With email, we keep your email address and a scrambled form of your password (never the password itself). You type your name into Pour yourself.
- Your name and username, which you enter when you sign up, and a profile photo if you add one.
- Failed sign-in tries with a username (the username typed and when), for up to a day, to stop people guessing passwords.
- That you confirmed you're 21 or older. Pour doesn't ask for your birthday. People who joined before October 17, 2026 gave a date of birth, which is used only for that check.
- What you do in Pour: the wines you rank and their scores, tastings you log (the year on the label, the date, label photos and notes), likes and comments on friends' rankings, wines you save to Want to try, wines you add, your friends and friend requests, the badges and streak you earn, and people you block or report.
- Basic usage events, such as "ranked a wine" or "opened the app", with the time. We use these to learn whether Pour is working. They're stored with your account and never shared in a way that identifies you.
- A push notification token, only if you turn on notifications, and which notifications you've switched on.
- Your invite code and who invited you. Pour is invite only for now: each account has a private invite code for its invite link, and we keep whose invite you joined with.
- Your email, if you join the waitlist without an account. It's used only to send you an invite, and we delete it on request.
- Photos you choose. Pour uses your camera or photo library only when you add a label photo to a tasting, and uploads only the photo you pick.
- Not your contacts. If you use "Invite from your contacts", Pour reads the phone number of the one person you pick, only to open Messages with your invite. It isn't sent to us or saved.
We don't collect your location, your contacts, photos you haven't picked, or anything from other apps. There are no ads, no third-party analytics and no tracking across apps or websites.
Who can see what
- Anyone signed in to Pour can see your name and username, and your profile photo if you add one, so friends can find you, and your place on the All members leaderboard (how many different grapes and countries you've ranked, nothing else).
- Your rankings, Want to try list, badges and streak are visible only to you and the friends you accept.
- Your email address and date of birth (if you gave one) aren't shown to anyone, including your friends. Your taste profile shows to friends unless you turn it off in Settings.
- Wines you add by hand join Pour's shared wine list (the wine's name, producer, grape and country). Pour doesn't show who added a wine.
- Friends can see the year and date of each tasting you log. Your label photos and notes are private unless you switch on "Friends can see photos and notes" for that tasting.
- Likes and comments on a friend's ranking are visible to that friend and their friends (not to people either of you has blocked).
- Reports go only to the Pour team.
Wine insights
Pour learns what wine drinkers like, and we share that with the world: in social media posts, and with wineries, wine shops and others in the wine business, who may pay for it. These insights are always totals and percentages across many people, never about one person. For example: "62% of Pour users rank a Cabernet Sauvignon as their favorite red," or "the most-saved rosés this summer."
- What goes into them: the wines people rank and their scores, the grapes, countries, regions and types of those wines, the years and dates of tastings, Want to try saves, and general app activity.
- What never does: your username, your account, your friends, your comments, your tasting notes and label photos, or anything else that could identify you.
- Always groups: every number comes from at least 25 people. We don't share or sell records about individual people, even with names removed.
- No re-identifying: we don't try to work out who is behind an insight, and anyone we share insights with must agree not to try either.
Where it's kept
Pour's data is stored with Supabase, our database provider, which keeps it on our behalf. Push notifications go through Apple and Expo's notification service, which only receive your push token and the message.
Deleting your data
In Pour, go to Profile, then Settings, then Delete account. This deletes your account and everything listed above for good, and ends Pour's access to your Apple sign-in if you used one. Reports you sent about other people are kept without your name, so we can still act on them. You can also email us and we'll delete it for you.
Age
Pour is for people 21 and older. Everyone confirms they're 21 or older when they sign up; if you're under 21, please don't use Pour.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above, and tell you in the app if the change matters.
